Today we announced that Daaryoush (Daz) Ahmed will be taking over as 1st XI captain. Daz has been playing for Golden Hill for more than a decade, joining as a youth player. He already has 44 games in the 1st XI behind him and has scored 1398 runs for the firsts, with a high score of 137* against Congresbury CC in June 2021.
His best bowling figures for the 1st XI were 5/24, also in 2021, against Hatherley & Reddings CC in the semi-final of the Gloucestershire County Cup.
He succeeds current 1st XI skipper Harry Thomas, who joined the club from Taunton Deane back in 2020 before taking over the 1st XI captaincy.
In this time, Harry has been instrumental to the success and development not only of the 1st XI but the club as a whole. Harry has played 41 games for Golden Hill CC 1st XI with 1197 runs posted and a high score of 143* against Downend CC in May this year.
Harry's dedication and achievements with the squad saw the 1st XI get promoted to WEPL 2 and become the Gloucestershire County Cup Champions last year and while he may have decided that it was time to pass the bat(on) on, we are confident that he will continue to play an integral part in the 1st XI and the club, both on and off the field.
As a club, we are excited to see how this next chapter unfolds and we would like to thank and congratulate Harry for his contributions and achievements so far and wish Daz the best of luck as he steps into his new role as captain when the 1st XI visit Downend CC this Saturday. #upthehill
