Girls Youth Cricket

Back in April of this year a few willing volunteers namely Chris Drew, Jamie Woodworth, Gordon Lee and Simon Granville George started up girls cricket for school years 3, 4 and 5.   On the first training day we only expected the 13 names who had registered an interest to turn up and we were delighted to find that the actually number was 19.  Over the following weeks the numbers haven’t dropped at all and we are now up to 22!
On 15th May we played our first ever games against other sides in the Frenchay Cricket Clubs Under 11’s soft ball festival.   The format is an 8 overs per inningIMAG0152_BURST015_1s game, each player bowls one over and each player bats with a partner for two overs. Wickets count as 5 runs to the fielding side.

Our girls were absolutely fantastic demonstrating their newly learnt skills superbly against sides who all had team kit and who looked very professional. The  first game was won by 15 runs against Frampton, the second a 3 run win against Brislington and the third a narrow 5 run loss against Bristol Phoenix thanks in part, to us lending them Abbie for the game to make up their numbers.  A great start to their cricket careers and much enjoyment and fun had by all.

The training night is at the Golden Hill Ground on Wednesdays 6pm to 7pm.IMAG0141_1
We are looking for parents with daughters in year 2 who would like to assist us with next years continuing development in to Girls Cricket.
