YM's First Eleven made a great start to the season on Saturday with a six wicket win over Bristol Sri Lankans.
The Sri Lankans, who amassed a total of 346 against YMCA last year, were restricted to 197/9 off their 45 overs with John Colley (4/51) and Joe Wenham (2/39) in amongst the wickets.
In reply, a superb second wicket partnership between Dave Spink (65) and Steve Donoghue (69) ensured a relatively comfortable victory for John Colley's side. The target was reached with 11 balls remaining.
The only other team in action was the Fourth Eleven who played their first fixture as a Division One side against Portishead. However, the day proved to be a tough assignment for the side, as Portishead posted a total of 218/3. Despite some late runs from Charlie Collard (47) and Ed Hollinghurst (40*) the Fourths finished 89 runs short of the target.
