| Davis - made great start to season |
Third Eleven Vice Captain, Gerry Davis, began his season in fine style yesterday with half century in YMCA's home friendly against Cardiff Cavaliers. Davis, who averages 28 with the bat for the 3rd XI, generously retired on 67 to allow others the opportunity of some vital batting practice ahead of the start of the B&D league season next Saturday. However, Davis' knock wasn't enough to secure victory for the home side, as the Cavaliers crusied to an eight wicket win.
In the other match at Golden Hill, the First Eleven enjoyed a narrow 15 run win over Aston University. Steve Donoghue (47) and John Colley (34) enabled YMCA to set the students a target of 142 for victory. This proved too much for them as John Colley (3/23), Joe Wenham and newcomer Jhanger Khan (2/3) got amongst the wickets. The Firsts will be hoping to continue this form in their tough opening league game against Bristol Sri Lankans next week.

YMCA struggled in the field against United Banks, as Dan Lockwood scored a century that included several big sixes that cleared the Rudgley Inn at Eaton-in-Gordano. United Banks won the match by 58 runs, despite Charlie Collard (32) making some early season runs. Chris Watts made a commendable performance with the ball, finishing with figures of 2/45 off his eight overs.
Meanwhile, YMCA's Under 15 side had a great start to the season today with an eight wicket victory over local rivals Stoke Bishop. Tony Huszlicska's side reached the victory target of 116 with just one ball remaining; George Bacon top scored with 46.
