News: Golden Hill Sports complete ground purchase (02/04/08)

Golden Hill Sports Ltd is proud to announce that the long running campaign to purchase their playing fields from Bristol YMCA has been achieved....

Previous landowner Bristol YMCA put the ground up for sale in December 2006. Thanks to the financial support of club members, local residents and grant agencies the club succeeded in reaching the £230,000 required to purchase the ground thus ensuring that it will be used in perpetuity for community sports.

GHS Chairman, Chris Drew, expressed his delight at finally completing the purchase: “It has been a tremendous effort from club members, friends and the community to finally secure the future of this valuable sports ground. There are so many people to thank and we would like to recognise this by holding a Grand Opening Ceremony on 13 June (which also coincides with our 130 anniversary). On a personal note I would like to thank the Steering Committee of Keith, Andy, Gerry and James who have put in so much time and effort in seeing this project through to completion."

"We are also very proud that in the last two years we have changed from a private cricket club to a community based sports and social facility for all ages to enjoy.”

Golden Hill Sports Ltd now has ownership of the entire ground with exception of a section of the car park, which remains under the ownership of Bristol Cathedral School. The club is establishing a relationship with the school to ensure that use of this land can continue.

Further details of the Opening Ceremony / 130th Anniversary BBQ which is planned for Friday 13th June will be announced over the coming weeks.
