Golden Hill Sports' first major major fundraising event of 2008 was a huge success as international rugby referee Tony Spreadbury entertained a packed clubhouse with a succession of amusing and interesting stories from his days as a top flight rugby official and also his experiences as a paramedic.

Wednesday evening's sell out audience were treated to some hilarious sporting tales and a masterclass in the finer rules of rugby by the local born sports celebrity who is affectionately known as 'Spreaders'. To top the evening off, a delicious buffet was laid on for the 70 or so members and residents who supported the evening that raised over £600.

Event Organiser Shaun Parker said: "An Evening with Spreaders' has to rank as one of the most enjoyable events the club has hosted in recent years. It was a real team effort from The Colleys, Neil & Sue, Ed, Shaun Piper and Richie and the whole atmosphere must have impressed some of the locals. The fact that we have been able to attract the support of such a high profile sports personalities as Colin Sexstone - and now Spreaders - suggests that Golden Hill Sports is rapidly establishing itself as a hub of the local community and a sports club to be reckoned with."
