News: Chairman's rallying cry (18/02/09)

Golden Hill Sports Football Club Chairman, Shaun Parker has made a timely 'rallying cry' to the senior footballers as they enter the most crucial few months since the club, formerly known as YMCA Cricketers FC, was formed in 2005.......

Since the turn of the new year Parker and his fellow GHSFC committee members have been working tirelessly behind the scenes in order to secure entry to the Bristol Suburban League for the 2008/2009. A move to the well respected league is seen as crucial to the long-term development of the senior side and will open the door for the creation of a reserve side which, in turn, will become an essential component to building closer ties with the emerging junior section.

The Suburban League committee, which includes the influential General Secretary Derek Cumner, are expected to deliberate over the latest batch of applicants in the coming weeks and the club are hoping that Golden Hill's superior facilities and close links with the famous YMCA Cricket Club will work in its favour.

Parker set out his aims in an open letter to members of the football club earlier this week and is under no illusion how important a good end to the season will be in respect of impressing the Surburban League committee as they deliberate over GHSFC's application. "We have ten league fixtures remaining", remarked the chairman, "If we can pick up four or five wins along the way we will guarantee the highest finish since we started and proof, if it were needed, that the club is progressing steadily. This positive outcome, combined with our impressive facilities and well organised set up, would go some way to reassuring the Suburban league that we are a good choice for next seasons newcomers."

To ensure the team gives itself the maximum opportunity to reach their goal, club captain Simon Weetch has introduced a new weekly training evening on Wednesdays. Skipper Weetch and his 'gaffer' Phil Wilton will be working relentlessly to make the remaining eleven games a success The team start with a home fixture against Mendip tomorrow.
