News: Updated averages go online (November 2007)

Despite the unprecedented number of cancelled and abandoned games throughout the 2007 season, the latest set of averages and records reveal some impressive statistics for YM individuals and teams alike.....

....In a summer largely dominated by off-the-field matters the players continued to raise the standard across the board with all four league sides finishing in their highest league position since the B&D was formed in 1973. The achievement was reflected in the successes attributed to a number players including 'the two Gerry's; President Gerry Mulholland hammered a typically brisk 98 for the 4th XI against a shell-shocked Claverham to post the highest individual score of during a summer when batting was never easy. And, Mulholland's namesake, Gerry Davis, made history of his own by becoming the first person to pass the milestone of 2000 league runs for the third team.

Simon White
White - 3000 runs/300 wickets

However, probably the most notable individual feat of the season belonged to the club's most accomplished all-round cricketer, Simon White who became, not only the first playerto pass the 2000 league and 200 wickets at senior level but, remarkably, the only player to pass the 3000 runs and 300 wickets barrier. Former 1st XI skipper White's tremendous achievement was recognised in the most fitting manner possible as he beat off stiff opposition to win the Ron Valentine Performance of the Year Award as a reward for his gargantuin efforts.

New highest team total
Of the few team records that fell last summer it was Ed Hollinghurst's high-flying fourth team who made the biggest impact when they set a new record for the highest team total by clocking up a massive 286 against a hapless Hanham side in May. The brilliant effort can be put into its rightful context when the total number of league YM matches that have preceded the game is taken into consideration - over 2100 between 1973 and 2007.

Chris Weeks
Weeks - "Steady Eddie at the creas

One of the heroes on the day was opening batsman, Chris Weeks who looked back on the days events as he and his team-mates posted a total which fell only 14 runs short of the magical 300 mark. The dependable right-hander said: "It was great team effort, (I think the highest individual score was only 60 odd), but with the strength of the side I think there are more records to be broken."

The lastest averages and records can now be viewed on this website with details of last season league campaigns, club records and the overall batting, bowling and fielding stats for each league side.
