News: White - The Untouchable (July 2007)
As regulars in the YM's First Eleven will already be fully aware there has been many occasions that their former skipper, Simon White has come to his sides rescue with, either an invaluable late-middle order innings or an important wicket or two at the death of a tense match. Such dependability and consistency is not a common currency in local amateur cricket and White, as any experienced club cricketer will recognise, is the classic all-round cricketer that everyone wants in their team.
White's pedigree as the most successful all-rounder that the club has ever produced is more than adequately underlined by the latest 'Top All-rounder' table that covers the achievements of those YM'ers who perform regularly with both bat and ball.

White, whose son Alex is making a name for himself as a young fast bowler, is head and shoulders above any of challengers, a fact that is made all the more impressive when consideration is given to the fact that 95% of his 379 wickets and 2938 runs were made at 1st XI level and as captain.
Indeed, after scoring his 63rd league run of the current season, during the recent win over Portishead, White unknowingly extended the gap between himself and the likes of Hitesh Shah, James Chidgey and Phil Dowle by becoming, not only the only player ever to score 2000 runs and taken 200 wickets but the only player to have scored 3000 runs and 300 wickets. Such is the magnitude of White's achievement that it is unlikely that White milestone will be matched in the next decade or more.
