News: Divine intervention for dedicated opener (February 2006)
James Steven, the man who teaches students on the workings of life 'in the cloth', weaved his own special magic in the 2005 season with an mightily impressive 415 league runs as the first eleven opening batsmen. The popular first-teamer scored the glut of runs in only 12 innings at an average of 37.7 including numerous sizeable half-centuries. Steven, a local family man, had worked especially hard on this batting technique during the winter months of 2004 and his hard work certainly paid off with his best return since joining the Golden Hill outfit.
Meanwhile, John Colley provided further evidence of his growing influence on the Simon White's team by becoming one of a very select band of cricketers to score 200 runs (209 runs at 23.2) and take 30 wickets (34 wickets at 16.6) in a B&D league season during the club's history. Colley's impact was rewarded with a further season as vice-captain, a position he will surely be promoted from in the years to come.
Finally, with the prospect of blaster-master Tom Milsom's full-time return combined with the prospect of key individuals Martin 'Corporal' Jones and Tim Over making more than a cameo appearance nest summer, there is plenty of reasons to be positive for the new campaign.
Lets hope White and his squad fulfill the expectations of the entire club.
