Shine Cricket Development Squads

As the cricket season approaches there is some exciting news for Golden Hill families as Bristol YMCA CC’s shirt sponsors Shine Sports Coaching are set to launch a new team based coaching programme called Shine Cricket Development Squads which is aimed at boys and girls of all abilities from under 6s, 7s, 8s and 9s age level.

The Saturday morning sessions will run from 5th May 2018 for 12 weeks and will utilise the great outdoor facilities available at Golden Hill although the teams will have the option to relocate to Shine Community Sports Hall in the event of wet weather conditions.

The activities will be coordinated by popular YM’s cricketer/youth coach Andy Hyde and his team of ECB qualified coaches. Each hour long session will involve a combination of small sided matches, skills, technical drills and cricket themed exercises with an emphasis on healthy fun. The sessions are set to replace the soft ball drop-in morning sessions held at Golden Hill in previous years, although the popular hard ball sessions will continue for those involved at junior cricket club level.

Play Matches in your new Shine JCC Kit

Shine director John Colley was delighted at the early interest in the different age groups and added “We believe a squad based activity such as this promotes a culture of continuity and consistency amongst the players, the coaches and the parents. It also acts as a platform to joining one of the local junior cricket clubs such as YM. The different age groups will play matches in their new Shine JCC kit and enjoy the positive side of team sport liking making new friends. Places are limited and we anticipate a sell out at each age group so if your child likes cricket I recommend you book early”.

The annual registration fee of £75.00 per child includes an official Shine Junior Cricket Club shirt and cap which they retain at the end of each season.

If you would like to register your boy or girl in the appropriate age group please visit https://www.shinesportscoaching.com/development-squads.  If you require further information have a look at these FAQS or contact Shine’s cricket co-ordinator Andy Hyde by email andy@shinesportscoaching.com or call 01174 033 033.

SCORER’S COURSES

SCORER’S E-LEARNING COURSE
Would you like some scorer training but are unable to attend an ECB ACO classroom course in the winter? Maybe you just want to refresh or improve your existing scoring skills. Then why not try the ECB ACO Club Scorer online course? This course can be taken at your own pace and at any time of the day or night.

To register for the course, visit the Club Scorer Online page on the ECB website. You don’t need to be an ECB ACO member to complete the course and it is completely free of charge. You will receive an ECB ACO certificate on completion of the course.

SCORERS INTRODUCTORY COURSE
This is an ideal course for complete beginners or as a refresher for anyone returning to scoring. It covers the very basics of scoring and is ideal for parents who want to get more involved or anyone who wants to get started in scoring. The aim of this course is to identify and practice the basic skills with which to record a cricket match. It doesn’t cover everything, but it will give you the tools to get started, including: • Scoring record (scoresheet) • Umpire’s signals • Scoring symbols • Recording wickets and extras • Scoresheet balancing. All scoresheets, handouts and refreshments will be provided but bring some pens/pencils to do some scoring with.

This course costs £5 payable on the day either in cash or by cheque made payable to “Gloucestershire Association of Cricket Officials”. For GCCL  division one and two clubs, you may send one scorer free of charge (payment will be claimed direct from GCCL).

To register for this course, visit the Introductory Course page of the ECB website.

Umpire Recruitment 2018

As you are aware, your Umpires (& Scorers) Association has run a campaign during 2017 to increase the awareness of the alarming lack of umpires coming into the game of cricket. It has to be said that the results, so far, have been more than disappointing. However, BACUS will continue with our efforts to do all that is possible to address and reverse the alarming trend.

As the 2018 season approaches, we appeal once again to all regional clubs for your support and action. We remain in the position, at this time, where it appears unlikely that we shall be able to appoint umpire members to more than a handful of Saturday games in the B&D league and WEPL tier 3 may also be affected.

BACUS remains convinced that the best umpires are those who have played before. Therefore, if you know of any club members who are currently thinking of reducing or ending their playing days, we ask that you approach and encourage them to consider standing as an umpire for at least ONE season.

All information needed to take this first step is available on the BACUS and ECB website together with full details of forthcoming training courses early in the New Year. Links are as follows:  www.Bristolacus.play-cricket.com or www.ecb.co.uk/be-involved/officials/find-a-course/upcoming-courses

Furthermore, if you or any members of your club’s committee hold any alternative ideas on how we might interest or recruit potential new umpire members, then please let us know by return as soon as possible as all avenues will be looked at and exploited.

Umpiring Courses 2018

Dear Friends

This is a great time to start Umpiring.

The development of umpires is a key priority within Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Somerset’s Development Plans and is also a key objective and requirement for Leagues throughout the county. All Cricket Boards are very committed to seeing an increase in the number of active qualified umpires and this is why we have joined forces with all the local leagues, to implement a plan that will see the number of league matches officiated by qualified umpires increase steadily over time.

As a result, a recruitment initiative alongside the ECB advertising campaign ‘Stay in the game’ has been designed to encourage players and volunteers to move into umpiring/scoring. This initiative is supported right from the top down, through WEPL, the Bristol and District and the County Leagues and the local District Leagues in Somerset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire.

GACO, SACO and WACO are providing ACO courses over the coming months, in preparation for the 2018 season. These courses will be delivered by qualified ECB instructors and following successful completion of the course, candidates will receive a formal ECB recognised certificate of attendance. This is the first step on the pathway for any individual who wishes to officiate ECB Premier League Cricket, multi-day cricket and First Class cricket.

It is important for all prospective Umpire and Scorer candidates in our area to understand that the only training available, that will enable a route to the very top of the Officials ladder, is exclusively provided by ECBACO, and the ECBACO training programme. For all aspiring Officials, whatever level they wish to attain, the ECB pathway provides them with a structured route, and support from Cricket’s National body.

With the new Laws applicable for the 2018 season the training courses have been amended to both update them with the new Laws and current umpiring techniques.

We are hoping to see strong support from clubs in nominating candidates for the training. At the bottom of this letter are the details of the courses we are running and an application form for clubs or candidates to complete.

These new ACO courses are now bookable on line and the website link can be found below. The course content will include all the course delivery and administration together with an ECB workbook, an MCC official on-field Law booklet, a Tom Smiths law book, a CRB check and Insurances.

It would be much appreciated if you could forward this letter on to any interested candidates at your club.

For more information on training and the ECB pathway, please visit the ECB Officials Website at – http://www.ecb.co.uk/ecb/ecb-association-of-cricket-officials/

The ECB Officials Courses can be viewed at – https://www.ecb.co.uk/be-involved/officials/find-a-course

In the meantime if you have any queries or would like any further information please do not hesitate to get in touch and we look forward to receiving your applications.
