Golden Hill Sonics

Golden Hill Sonics is a parent run football club, which welcomes boys and girls (from any local school) in years 2 to 8. Years 2 to 6 meet between at varying times between 9.30am. and 11.30am. on Saturdays during the school term at the Golden Hill Sports Ground just off Kellaway Ave, Golden Hill, Bristol.

The year 7 & 8 groups play in the Avon Youth League on Sunday mornings and train one evening during the week.
We are part of Golden Hill Sports Ltd, a registered charity and affiliated to the Gloucestershire Football Association.

During the session we organise football training, exercises and mini-games for the children. We also play regular matches against other local clubs and participate in at least one end of season tournament.

Our aim is to have fun. We want all the children to enjoy the football training, exercises and matches in a supportive environment as developed by the coach and helpers. We hope that all the children will improve their footballing ability and sportsmanship, and progress to enjoy the game in the future.

In order to achieve this goal:

The coach shall plan and organise a constructive training session in which all children are encouraged to try their best in a positive, unpressurised environment.

The helpers shall help the children understand the exercises and encourage them.

The children shall:
• pay attention to the coach and helper
• participate in the exercises
• behave in an appropriate manner.

The parents or guardians shall ensure that:
• children arrive with boots and shin pads

• children have clothing suitable for the conditions and some refreshment

• the training session / match is going ahead before leaving their child since bad      weather may cause cancellation

• children are collected on time

The club fees are £40 per child payable in advance per year. These funds go to pay for balls, kits, and other football-related items.

Each year group will have a maximum of 20 children with a waiting list created once the maximum number of 20 has been reached. The waiting list will be operated on a first on the list first off basis. The limit of 20 is to ensure each coach manages the year group as effectively as possible as well as giving the children an opportunity to play in the match teams against local clubs.

It is expected that parents or guardians of year 2 children will remain on site. For children in years 3-6 who are left, it is assumed that they are responsible enough to remain within the immediate area of the training session or match. However, parents and guardians are encouraged to stay and watch either the training sessions or the matches and help the coaches set up when asked, especially on match days.

The coach reserves the right to suspend a child from the training session for an appropriate period of time for misbehaviour. In the event of an injury and the absence of the parent / guardian the coach will decide on the appropriate course of action.

A lost property bag is maintained and kept on site during training sessions. Unclaimed lost property will be given to charity at the end of each term.

FA Charter Standard

During July 2009, the club applied for FA Charter Standard recognition. This is a best practice guide that sets standards of coaching, administration and child protection.

In the lead up to application, a number of key events have happened including, but not limited to:

  • Coaches and helpers have undergone FA CRB checks
  • Coaches and their assistants have attended FA Level 1 coaching sessions – all have either passed or will complete their assessment in Sept 2009
  • The club is committed to adhering to and promoting specific FA standards
  • The club is delighted to retain the services of a Child Welfare Officer

It is expected that all players, parents, coaches and helpers adhere to codes of conduct set out within FA Charter Standard documentation, detail of which can be found on notice boards within the club.
Very Important

Although structured and following best practice, it must be emphasised that the club is run by volunteer parents. The club will always benefit from additional help particularly in more formal capacities. If you can help in any way (formal, regular or irregular basis), please speak to your year group coach.
