Shine Sports Coaching Official Sponsors of YMCA.C.C

Whether you’re a first team regular or an excited U11 newcomer the feeling of representing the historic Bristol YMCA Cricket Club is something every player can be proud of and, with the season already underway, it’s time to remind our men, women and youth cricketers to treat themselves to the latest club kit.

Anybody involved in team sport knows that wearing an official club shirt is an important part of the team culture which, in turn, promotes success on the field. Last season an encouraging number of the senior and youth members purchased the latest club shirt.

How do I buy some kit?

We now have a new club shop –

If you place your order by midnight on 8th April and choose the “collect from store” option, all orders will be delivered to John Coley by Friday 20th April so he can distribute and save postage and packaging. After this date it will be up to individuals to sort their own kit orders out.

Each item of kit features the GHS Club crest as well as our Club Sponsor’s Shine Sports Coaching logo as you can see here. Ordering online is easy and safe with your chosen items being sent directly to your home in time for the season ahead.

Past season stock for sale!

We have a small selection of smaller sized stylish cricket shirts and high quality hoodies, see photos below. The shirts are £5.00 and the hoodies £10.00. Please email Helen if you would like one.

Every Schoolboy’s Dream (The story of the Woodcock Shield) by Steve Sutor – buy a copy and raise cash for YMCA CC

As well as being a life-long player and supporter of YMCA Cricket Club, Steve Sutor can claim another passion connected to local amateur sport thanks to his dedication to unearthing the incredible history behind The Woodcock Shield, the long lost junior football trophy. Over the past century the impressive shield has been awarded to school teams from all over Bristol and, such was Steve’s enthusiasm for the Shield’s remarkable past, that he decided to write a book which, after three years of painstaking research, was published in 2013 with much media fan fare.

Steve Sutor

For those who like local history, the book offers a fascinating read and features articles on all the previous winners as well as many interesting by-gone images and numerous amusing stories that recount the exploits of the characters associated with the competition as far back as 1909. The colourful, easy to read paperback offers readers an amazing insight into the eventual whereabouts of the Shield – finally discovered in a school corridor in the outskirts of the city! But that’s not all… thanks to listing the names of over 1,000 soccer mad Bristolians (some who went on to represent City and Rovers!!) the book offers a unique reference point for people who enjoy researching their family tree.

Every School Boy's Dream

Every Schoolboy’s Dream (The Story of the Woodcock Shield) rrp £15.00

Thanks to Steve’s support of his beloved cricket club he has generously offered to donate a portion of the proceeds from future book sales to the cricket club’s fundraising appeal. Golden Hill Sports members and supporters who purchase a copy of the book will automatically contribute towards the cost of a new set of covers for the 3rd/4th team square.  The hard hitting former 2nd X1 captain commented “I know what it is like to look forward to the game all week, only to have it called off due to a wet pitch on the morning of the game. To help raise money for some much needed covers I will donate £5.00 of the retail price to club funds”.
