Bristol YMCA lift the Stuart Canvas Gloucestershire Trophy

FIFTEEN-year-old Cyrus Shafi turned in a tremendous man-of-the-match display to help Bristol YMCA overpower Westbury-on-Severn by five wickets to lift the Stuart Canvas Gloucestershire Trophy at Cheltenham.

The all-rounder, a member of the Gloucestershire Under-15 squad, began the day with a burst of 6-14 from eight overs of left-arm spin as Westbury, who lost the toss, were bowled out for 125.

And Cyrus then followed up with an unbeaten 41, sharing a crucial stand of 61 with skipper John Colley (33) to help steer his side over the line after they had appeared to be rocking at 18-3 and then 49-4 as Jon Hargreaves (3-21 from eight) made early inroads.

Earlier, Westbury were in the driving seat after forging their way to 73-1 with opener Dan Anderson hitting 39 before Cyrus and 16-year-old Jack Edwards (3-28 from seven overs of leg spin) combined to spark a remarkable collapse, backed up by some fine fielding.
